how to paint a chest of drawers the perfect blue green furniture color
Color: Florence by Annie Sloan

I remember When I first started painting furniture in 2014. I LOVE LOVED all of the blueish green furniture I saw. I thought it looked fresh, new and clean! That being said I HAD to seek out that bright color and find it! Paint it and fall in love with it in person!

I used Annie Sloan’s Florence for this chest of drawers. I painted it in 2 coats of Florence and added brown wax to the details. I used Citrus Solvents to tone down the dark wax. Citrus Solvents help make the wax more runny to work with. Almost like a glaze. It becomes much easier to apply! And the citrus solvents smell amazing!! And they are must less harmful than mineral spirts. 😉

My Recipe for thinning wax

  • 3 TBS. of dark wax
  • 1/2 TSP. of citrus solvents
  • plastic spoon
  • glass or metal container (important because citrus solvents can eat thru plastic. 🙂

Begin by placing dark wax in a glass or metal container. Add 1/2 tsp. of citrus solvents to the dark wax. Start mixing with spoon until you have a runnier less thick consistency. Once dark wax is smoother begin by applying with a small brush ( I LOVE stencil brushes for applying dark wax. They are small and mighty. Perfect for getting into those hard to reach places.) Don’t worry if you are not perfectly in the lines! Wipe off the excess with a clean shop towels. (I love shop towers. Do not use paper towels they will leave little fuzzies in your wax.)
