Hi, I am Megan, nice to meet you. Welcome to Lets paint furniture. Let me share with you my journey!
We had outdated furniture. I wanted it to be cute and pretty like the furniture you see at Ashley Furniture but probably, if you’re like me, can’t afford. But is it even possible to paint furniture that looks like it came from a “real” store?
I am here to tell you it is possible! Stick with me. I’ll show you how. 🙂
My husband and I had bought a beautiful new home. The previous homeowners had graciously left us 2 bedroom suites, (thank goodness!) At the time we had 4 kiddos and really needed more furniture. What we had was from 1970’s: 1970’s antique real wood moroccan style furniture. It was very unique. I knew the furniture was too good to donate and buy something that was made of far less quality.
I was a apart of a small group on FB called “share your pinterest trys”. There was a member named Brandy who shared a dresser that she had recently painted. I asked her how she could make something so beautiful! Her dresser looked absolutely amazing! She explained I would have to find my local chalk paint stockiest and take a class. That was what she had done!
I googled chalk paint stockiest near me and found one in Memphis, TN. It was called “Me and Mrs Jones”. Mrs. Jones, it turned out, owned a painted finish studio that sold chalk paint. I immediately sent her a message and got enrolled in her “how to paint furniture with chalk paint” class. I was on my way!
I fell in love with it. I had tapped into what I had always wanted to do. Create! I could create with this simple paint.
I took more classes. I began having my father in-law watch our 6 month old so I could continue to take painted furniture classes. Over the course of a year and a half I took every painted furniture class Mrs. Stephanie Jones offered.
Here I am 5 years latter, ready to share with you how to paint your furniture. 🙂 I love that I can now create and refinish these pieces. And I am happy to say, wherever you are in your journey, I promise: YOU CAN TOO!
Blessings,
Megan
