1. A Chip brush– The chipper the chip brush bristles (try and say that 5 times fast! Haha) the more texture you will get on the the piece of furniture you are working on. If you are for a high texture layered looked this is the brush for you! The standard size size brush is 2 in.

2. Sand Paper– Sand paper is going to allow you to make any thick spots smooth. It will also allow you to distress your piece if you are wanting a farmhouse rustic look on your furniture! I recommend 220 grit. 220 is a good middle ground that will never rough up your piece too much. You want rustic chic not scratchy chic. Ha.

3. Steel Wool– Steel wool is one of my favorite tools for refinishing furniture! It is a classic component to a fine painted finish. Professional painted finishers use still wool when they are distress instead of sandpaper. You have more control with steel wool than you do with sand paper. Steel wool moves with the shape of your hand allowing you to get in tiny intricate detailed spots on furniture, unlike sandpaper. Steel wool is also wonderful when applying wax! It will make wax shine.

4. Citrus Solvent – Before painting a piece of furniture I like to use as green of products as I possible. I love using citrus mineral spirits to clean furniture before I paint. And they make your project smell amazing! Citrus mineral spirits are natural. Made from citrus fruits and have deep cleaning powers. 🙂

5. Shop Towels – I love shop towels! Shop towels are durable. They do not leave behind little fuzzies on your furniture projects the way paper towels can. They are wonderful for wiping away excess wax. You can usually use a shop towel more than once as long as it does not have a bunch of dark wax on it! 🙂
