Top 10 gifts for the DIY Mom
- Wooster Short cut paint brushes! (These are my absolute favorite! They have a rubber handle that moves with your hand. So your hand is not tired after a day of painting.
2. Folk Art Variety Pack of Chalk Style Paint (This is awesome because you get SO many colors to choose from! These sizes are perfect for small projects! And this is a great price!)
3. Shop Towels (I personally LOVE LOVE LOVE shop towels!! Like, you could line our house with them and I would be so excited! Shop towels work better than paper towels on DIY projects because they do not leave behind any little fuzzies from the towel! They are also very strong compared to paper towels. You can wrap a wet paint brush in them and the shop towel will not fall apart!)
4. Iron Orchid Designs (This is a newer company, hot and rising! 2 sisters that are into design. They make some of the best molds and image transfers for furniture on the market! You can fill the molds with clay…epoxy really almost anything. These molds look SO realistic after you have painted them! It’s amazing!
5. Royal Design Studio Stencils (I LOVE royal design studio stencils. Melanie Royal spends lots of time and effort designing these stencils. She travels to make sure their design is true to history and the countries they originate from.) I personally used this stencil for our kids bedroom! It is very user friendly!
6. Dixie Belle Mineral Paint ( I love this brand because it is affordable! And it is a good quality paint. They offer lots of different shades of colors and you can paint a large piece of furniture or just a cute set of picture frames. Perfect for big and small projects. Drop Cloth is also one of Dixie Bell’s most popular colors!)
7. Shellac ( Seriously, put in a basket shellac, dixie belle and a Wooster short cut brush, who wouldn’t love it!? Shellac is wonderful! It is a stain blocker. If you are working on a project that is old or smelly, Shellac is your best friend! Spray shellac on your piece and it will seal the stains so that you can paint over them without the stains seeping thru your paint! Shellac is also great for smoky furniture. Spray it in drawers and it will lock out a smoky smell.)
8. Disposable latex free gloves (I personally love latex free gloves. I do not like the powder residue that latex gloves have. And these gloves are thin and durable! They are not bulky. Making it easier for you to work with your hands!)
9. Respirator!!! (we do not want momma getting lung cancer! Seriously. Sometimes DIY projects can have lots of fumes, dust or who knows what. You do not want to inhale those toxic things. There are warning labels on paint cans and sanders for a reason. 😉 I Personally own this respirator. It just needs to have new cartridges purchased after they have had use. They are going to protect you lunges better in the long term than the disposable respirators.)
10. General Finishes High Performance Top Coat ( for all of those DIY projects you need a sealer to make your project last for the long term. My favorite sealer for paint projects is GF high performance top coat. It goes on smoothly and leaves a perfect finish every time. I recommend rolling it on to prevent brush strokes. 🙂
Most of all, on Mother’s Day the best gift of all is your sweet mom! Giving her a hug and telling her that you love her will make her day! All the gifts are just icing on the cake. Or in this case….paint on a table..? ha.
