Painting furniture bright colors can be SO much fun!! I have had a lot of success with this bold beautiful teal color that I wanted to share with you all! This is my favorite blue/green paint for furniture!:)

This piece was found in a family barn. Literally. It was brought to me full of dirt dobbers. Ha! The owner wanted it painted in something bright so that that she could put it in her bathroom to hold all of her towels.

It was a lot of fun to paint this antique piece. Each piece of shelving in this hutch had been run thru a saw mill. The inner shelving has the saw mill marks on the shelves. A Very old unique family piece. 🙂

My Favorite Blue/Green Furniture Paint

Are you ready?! It is Annie Sloan’s Florence!! I’ve used this paint color several times and it delivers a beautiful bright finish every single time! It looks great with just clear wax OR it looks beautiful aged with antique brown wax.

Supplies you need to Paint Furniture The Perfect Blue/Green

  1. Annie Sloan Florence – this IS a gorgeous blue/green color. Almost a bright teal that I used on the piece of furniture in this post! (I also recommend The Purple Painted Lady bc she has a flat rate shipping of $8.00 on her paint!)
  2. Your favorite paint brush- (this is mine! It has a rubber handle and your hand does not hurt after a day of painting!)
  3. Clear finishing wax (to seal your project)
    OR
  4. Polyurethane water based (water based because Annie Sloan Chalk paint is also water based.)

TO Begin

Make sure furniture project is clean. (Clear of any dirt dobbers. 😉 You can wipe your piece down with a damp shop towel or a little water and vinegar! Vinegar and water always cleans furniture well!

(I had about 3 hours of prep in this piece because it had been in a barn for so many years. Hopefully you won’t have to prep your piece that long!)

Once your piece of furniture is nice and clean you can begin by dipping your paint brush into a small amount of paint. I always recommend turning your paint can over while you are prepping your piece. This allows all of the good pigments of the paint to work themselves to the top of the can and be ready for your project! 🙂

When you have paint on your brush start at the bottom of your furniture piece and work your way up. Being careful to go in up and down strokes and always with the grain. Also make sure to apply thin even coats. Thick coats can end up chunky and make for an uneven surface.

Your piece will need 2-3 coats of paint depending on the original finish of the project you are working on. You want to make sure that the original finish has been all covered. I think this piece took closer to 3 coats of Annie Sloan Florence chalk paint.

When your piece has good coverage and it is dry to the touch (Annie Sloan dries pretty fast, 30 minutes to an hour depending on the humidity.) Your can apply a water based polyurethane OR as I did on they piece you can use clear finish wax. If you use wax make sure to work the wax into the paint with your brush going in circular motions and wiping off the excess wax as you go. Wax will feel nice and smooth to the touch. Almost creamy like cold butter. 🙂 If you use poly to seal your piece you’ll want to make sure it dries over night and apply 2-3 coats of poly depending on your furniture piece and how high traffic of an area it will be in. (It’s its in a room with 5 kids 3 coats. If it’s in a room with your and your husband and sleeping baby that can’t move yet then….2 coats. 😉

Finished Piece in Florence Chalk Paint!

If you have sealed your piece with wax you can use it right away!! If you have sealed with your furniture project with poly then you will need to wait over night for the poly to dry so that you can use your piece of furniture! 🙂 Yae! WAY TO GO! I’m proud of you!
