Being a busy mom and accomplishing painting furniture projects can sound challenging! I think most mom’s want the perfect room in their home to reflect their personal taste and be functional all at the same time. Not to mention affordable. How do you update your home with kids and affordablely? The answer…..painted furniture!

It seemed like at my grandparents house there were two types of rooms. Ones that looked beautiful that you couldn’t walk thru. They looked like rooms in a museum. You could look but, not touch. The other types of rooms were the rooms we actually lived in but, because of that they were not as beautifully furnished. They were more rough around the edges. You know, like grandma didn’t care if you ate lunch on the couch in that room. This is the beautiful thing about painting furniture it’s both durable and beautiful. And I want you to know this, being a busy mom often you feel like you can’t do it. BUT YOU CAN DO IT even with the schedule of being a busy mom.

Tips for Painting Furniture with kids

Generally I like to paint furniture outside in our garage. It is less messy, you don’t have to worry about your floors getting paint on them, and since you also don’t have to worry about paint fumes (depending on what kind of paint you are using) it’s just easier to paint outside. I have found that inviting our kids to play outside while I am painting a piece of furniture works very well since it is pretty much killing two birds with one stone. I get to be productive. They get to play!

Activities Kids can do Outside While You are Painting Furniture

  1. Basketball! Our kids love a good game of P I G or H O R S E and it usually last 20 minutes before there is a dispute. 🙂
  2. Jumping rope – Have your kiddos see who can jump to 100 first (at our house this can take a while. 😉
  3. Hula Hooping – See who can hula hoop the longest without the hula hoop falling.
  4. Riding Bikes – We live in a colda sac. And I want to make sure I can always see our kids when I am working on a project. I tell our kiddos to see how many times they can ride around in the big circle.
  5. Riding Scooters
  6. Side Walk Chalk – This is a great one for even the 2 year old!
  7. Blow Bubbles – All ages like bubbles. Have your older kids blow bubbles for the younger kiddo’s.
  8. Water mommy’s flowers – This is probably one of our kids favorite things to do! I do not even have to be doing a project in the garage and they will ask if they can water the flowers!
  9. Check the mail – All kiddos love to check the mail. This activity does not take as long so make sure you have the bubbles ready!
  10. Sweep the garage floor – Often if the kids see me sweeping…they want to sweep too! And it’s awesome!
