I love antique chairs. They are so pretty and unique. There is always a story behind them. Chairs are wonderful at being accents in a corner or using in the dinning room for seating. They are also perfect for displaying decor.

One of my new favorite whites is by Jolie. Jolie is a paint company based out of New Orleans. Their paint is nice and thick and they have a beautiful pallet. Jolie’s Palace White is what I used for this project. Stay tuned, I’ll share how I painted the seat with Jolie Swedish Grey to create a leather look. 🙂

Supplies to Paint an Antique Chair White

  1. Jolie Palace White (a sample pot will be enough to paint a chair)
  2. Your favorite brush, this is mine!
  3. Clear finishing wax
  4. Wax brush

Steps to Painting a Chair White

Begin by making sure chair surface is clean. Once chair surface is clean turn chair upside down. (This is what the pros do. They always turn small tables and chairs upside down to paint the underneath side first. ) Paint the underneath side of the chair with Jolie Palace white. You will need 2-3 coats depending on your underneath finish.

Once the chairs underneath side has been painted turn chair back over to the front and begin paint the front of the chair. Make sure you are applying coats of paint in thin even layers. Being careful not to apply too thick. Wipe up any drips.

Chair Before

When chair has been completely painted let dry for about 30 minutes. On a warm summer day dry time should only be about 20 minutes in-between coats. 🙂 After chair has completely dried admire it!! You painted a chair in a beautiful new white paint!

After admiring your hard work you will need to finish the chair by sealing it. Lightly dip your wax brush into the clear finishing wax and in circular motions begin to wax the chair. Wipe off any excess wax and you go long. A good finishing wax job will feel nice and smooth the touch. 🙂 Be careful not to over work the wax. If you overwork the wax you will notice it begins to turn rubbery.

Once chair has been completely waxed, go over chair lightly with a shop towel. This will buff the chair and make the wax shine. 🙂 Way to go!

One Of A Kind Throw Pillows

PRO TIP: Use sand paper to lightly sand the edges of your chair. This will create a distressed look. 🙂
