how to sell painted furniture

Painting furniture can be extremely therapeutic. It allows you to relax and get out any anxious energy. It’s also a great way to use your creative outlet. I found after I had painted most of the furniture in our house that I still wanted to paint furniture! But, what was I going to do with all of the furniture? It was starting to collect….in weird random spots in our home. My husband was starting to wonder. Haha. I HAD to start selling some of the furniture. And I’m so thankful I made that leap!

I started selling my painted creations in an antique/creative mall. I rented a booth and sales were steady. 🙂 But, I ran into a problem when the shop I was selling my painted furniture was going to close. 🙁 I toyed around with the idea of renting another booth in another shop. We have many of them in our town. I liked that the shops were open typically from 10-6 five days a week. But, I did not like hauling furniture and unloading the furniture. It was a hassle. And you do have to pay someone else a percentage of your sales. So, I started to sell my painted furniture projects on craigslist. I’m here to tell you that yes craigslist DOES still exist and people still shop on craigslist! I actually met one of my now great friends and customers on craigslist! I call her my craigslist friend.

Craigslist helped me grow and made me realize that you can sell your painted furniture online. You can keep that extra percentage you were paying to an antique mall. (Although I did love selling in the antique mall. It had it’s benefits! Someone is there to sell your furniture for you! And people can see your furniture up close and personal.)

After my success with with Craigslist….the introduction of FB marketplace came about! This was BRAND new. And I quickly jumped on board. I LOVED it because you can click on who is inquiring about your painted furniture and then you can check out their FB page to make sure they are safe!! Not only that but, my painted furniture as long as it was painted not too bold and photoed well sold the day I posted or the next day! (I still sell on FB marketplace. 🙂 Below you’ll find my top 5 ways to sell your painted furniture!

My Top 5 Places to Sell Painted Furniture

  1. Facebook Marketplace – This is the fastest and easiest way to sell furniture online in my personal experience. If it is priced right and photoed well I typically sell my furniture here the day I post or within the first 24 hours of posting.
  2. Craigslist – I’ve also had LOTS of luck as I mentioned above selling my painted furniture on craigslist. People do still check it out when they can’t find what they are looking for in the other market places.
  3. Your personal facebook page – People that know you, know that they can trust you! And generally your friends love and want to support you and are likely to purchase from your personal facebook page. If you don’t want to overload your personal FB page, create a business page that is just for selling furniture. Here is an example of mine. 🙂 Feel free to follow me while you are there! 🙂
  4. Etsy is also super popular for furniture painters to sell their painted furniture. I personally have to sold my furniture on Etsy. I’ve been blessed with customers here locally and have not ventured that far out. But, have painted furniture friends that sell ALL their painted furniture via Etsy.
  5. Antique mall/ Craft Mall –Rent a booth! Get your feet wet! See that people will actually buy your painted furniture and build up your confidence! Sell their for a while and you may never leave!

Have you had success selling your painted furniture? If so tell me in the comments where!! I’d love to hear and post about your success!
